With a little over a week to go before voting in the US presidential election, the latest opinion poll suggests George Bush has taken a narrow lead over John Kerry.
An ABC News survey found that 51% are backing the president for re-election and 47% are supporting Mr Kerry.
The majority of voters in the US are going to the polls next Tuesday, but voters in some states can cast their votes early while others can cast absentee ballots.
This means that 9% of likely voters have already filled out their ballots. The ABC survey reflects this.
A separate poll by the Los Angeles Times points to a dead heat with both candidates on 48%.
Some analysts have suggested that the outcome could be so close that it could lead to a repeat of four years ago, when a bitter recount dispute ensued in the state of Florida.
