Members of the Galway Mountain Rescue team are tonight involved in an operation to bring a woman who has been injured while climbing in Connemara to safety.

The woman was part of a large group who were climbing Ben Choona near Killary Harbour when she suffered a broken leg.

The Shannon-based coastguard helicopter made an unsuccessful attempt to reach her but had to withdraw because of high winds. The coastguard said weather conditions in the area were too severe.

The rescue team were expected to reach the climber at around 8pm.
