A strong earthquake measuring seven on the Richter scale hit northeastern Taiwan today.
The quake shook office buildings in the capital Taipei, and officials said there were several people injured.
The epicentre was in the Pacific Ocean about 70 miles off the northeast coast.
Taiwan has been warned by seismologists to expect some aftershocks in the coming days.
The last major earthquake to strike Taiwan was in 1999, when more than 2,400 people died and around 50,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged.
