A 17-year-old Dublin youth has been found guilty at the Central Criminal Court of the murder of a Donaghmede schoolboy.

Christopher Dunne of Millwood Villas, Kilbarrack had denied the murder of 17-year-old Alan Higgins in October 2002 outside the UCI Cinema in Coolock in Dublin.

The jury returned a unanimous verdict after hearing evidence at the eight-day trial.

Dunne was also convicted of stealing the victim's mobile phone during the fatal stabbing attack. It is expected he will be sentenced later this month.

As Alan Higgins went to get the last bus home following a night out with his girlfriend at the UCI cinema in Coolock he was attacked by Christopher Dunne and two others.

Alan's mobile phone was stolen and as he lay on the ground Christopher Dunne stabbed him three times.

The court heard that Dunne had been drinking with friends all evening. They had already stolen from three other groups of people before attacking Mr Higgins.

Christopher Dunne was described as having borderline intellectual capacity. The court further heard that psychologists' tests showed he would have had difficulty understanding the consequences of his actions.
