The trial has begun at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of three gardaí alleged to have assaulted a man who was attending a Reclaim The Streets protest in Dublin over two years ago.
The three gardaí, Paul Daly, who is attached to Pearse Street Station, and Ronan Judge and Thomas Victory, both attached to Store Street station, deny assault causing harm to former student Rory McMonagle.
On the first day of the trial, the court heard that Mr McMonagle needed six stitches to his head having been hit with batons while attending the protest on Dublin's Dame Street on 6 May 2002.
Giving evidence this afternoon, Mr McMonagle said he was struck by six gardaí while standing on the pavement on Dame Street.
He said the incident lasted a matter of seconds and that a more senior officer had intervened to put his arm out to stop the action of the other gardaí.
Mr McMonagle said he could not identify any of the six gardaí who he claims attacked him.
The prosecuting counsel told the jury of eight men and four women that they will see video evidence relating to the incident and also hear the evidence of senior gardaí who say they can identify certain officers on the tape.
