Video firm to put staff on three-day week

A video production company in Sligo that employs 185 people is to put most of its workforce on a three-day week.

Saehan Media said the move is absolutely essential in the light of a sharp decrease in the European VHS market, the strong euro and manufacturing over-capacity in the industry.

The three-day week will come into effect on 18 October.

However, the company says they will be making every effort to reverse the situation as a matter of urgency.

Saehan Media opened in Sligo in 1991 and employed 400 people.

At the end of last year, it shut down a number of production areas in the plant.  And earlier this year, 75 temporary and permanent staff were let go.
