Tributes paid to religious affairs broadcaster

The death has taken place in England of the acclaimed religious affairs broadcaster, Billy FitzGerald.

The death has taken place in England of the acclaimed religious affairs broadcaster, Billy FitzGerald.

As a Catholic priest, he was appointed in 1972 as Advisor to the RTÉ Authority on religious programmes and subsequently to the post of Head of Religious Programmes in the station. He retired in 1989.

He is survived by his wife Rowanna, a brother and a sister.

The former Director-General of RTÉ, Mr Bob Collins, paid tribute to his work for the organisation, singling out for praise his series on the Bible, entitled Best Seller.
