Police in Derry have renewed their appeal for information about the shooting of man at the Waterside this morning.

Darren Thompson, 22, remains critically ill in hospital after being shot in the head. He was found outside a property at Woodburn Park at around 7.30am this morning.

Detectives say Mr Thompson would have taken this route from his home in Harkness Gardens to his work every morning.

They appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them.

Detective Chief Inspector Patrick Steele, who is heading the enquiry, said it was a brutal shooting in broad daylight in a quiet residential area.

Police are investigating whether there was any link with previous incidents in the past six weeks, including a fight believed to involve UDA and UVF members in August.
