As part of the joint operation with gardaí, the PSNI organised crime branch in the North said it had seized several thousand DVD's and computer copying equipment with an estimated value of £200,000.

It follows raids on stores at Derrylin, near the border in Co Fermanagh, at Eglinton in Co Derry and in West Belfast.

In the latter case, police responding to a fire in an old mill premises on the Springfield Road discovered a third counterfeiting operation.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Sproule said the joint operation showed the commitment and determination of the Gardaí and PSNI to halt the activities of organised criminals.
