Junior ministers appointed to Cabinet

At its first meeting, the new Cabinet has assigned the five new ministers of state to departments, and transferred a further six to new departments.

The new ministers of state are: Sean Power in the Department of Health; Batt O'Keeffe in the Department of the  Environment; Tony Killeen at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment; Brendan Smith at the Department of Agriculture; and Conor Lenihan at the Foreign Affairs Department.

Apart from Tom Kitt, who has been appointed Chief Whip, the junior ministers who have been moved are Frank Fahey, who goes to the Department of Justice.

Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher goes to the Communications Department. John Brown joins Agriculture while Ivor Callelly moves to Transport.

Noel Treacy moves to the Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs.

It is understood that other junior ministers will retain their existing jobs, while the specific duties of the new and transferred ministers of state will be assigned at next week's Cabinet meeting.
