Former US President slams Florida authorities

Former US President Jimmy Carter has accused the authorities in Florida of failing to carry out the reforms agreed after President Bush's controversial narrow victory result there four years ago.

Former US President Jimmy Carter has accused the authorities in Florida of failing to carry out the reforms agreed after President Bush's controversial narrow victory result there four years ago.

Mr Carter, a Democrat, said the Republican governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, who is a brother of the President, had taken no steps to stop unfair practices.

Mr Carter said that 'basic international requirements' for a fair vote are missing in Florida.
