The High Court has ordered a Tipperary farmer to stop building a hay barn underneath an ESB supply line over fears that someone could be killed.

The High Court has ordered a Tipperary farmer to stop building a hay barn underneath an ESB supply line over fears that someone could be killed.

An ESB official told the court that the ESB had to cut supply on the 38 KV line because construction workers were using hoists underneath it.

He said that farmer Noel Duggan of Killeisk, Toomevara, had failed to apply for permission for the barn, had refused to implement safety precautions, and had ignored four notices to quit.

The official added that supply to 15,000 customers in the area is now at risk and that there could be consequences for the national grid.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan granted an interim injunction to stop work pending a hearing next Wednesday.
