Irish showjumper wins Olympic gold

Irish showjumper Cian O'Connor has won a gold medal in the final of the Olympic Showjumping mixed individual event.

Irish showjumper Cian O'Connor has won a gold medal in the final of the Olympic showjumping mixed individual event.

In the final of two rounds, Mr O'Connor on Waterford Crystal jumped clear before watching eight more riders compete.

After seeing the last rider, Britain's Nick Skelton, complete his round, Mr O'Connor was assured of the gold medal.

It is Ireland's first-ever Olympic gold medal in an equestrian event.
