SIPTU members at Brinks Allied are to vote on settlement proposals in their dispute tomorrow morning.

The proposals are being recommended by unions and management following more than five hours of talks at the Labour Relations Commission this evening.

SIPTU Dublin Security Services Branch Secretary, Kevin McMahon, thanked the LRC for its help and said he would not be commenting on the proposals ahead of tomorrow's meeting.

The row centres on the use of new security vehicles that workers believe leave them open to attack.

The new vehicles, which are in use in continental Europe, allow cash collections without staff having to leave their vehicles.

Earlier, SIPTU said its members were due to report for work this morning despite threats that they would not be paid unless they use the new vehicles.

However, the union asked its members to remain available for work but not to operate the new vehicles because of safety concerns.

In particular, it was opposed to new company instructions that advise staff to drive away from a threatened colleague in the event of a robbery.

The union wanted the new vehicles and procedures to undergo an independent safety audit.

More than 200 ATM machines, mainly in the greater Dublin area, were not serviced over the Bank Holiday weekend as a result of the dispute and are now empty.

Customers of the banks involved, AIB, Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank, were advised to go to the ATM machines in local branches, which are not affected by the dispute.
