The Revenue Commissioners says it is still examining the High Court Inspectors' report on misconduct at National Irish Bank, but that it will take any action appropriate against those named.
It had been reported today that a special team within the Revenue is to attempt to get criminal convictions against 19 former NIB executives for organising systematic tax evasion.
It is understood that no special unit has been set up to pursue the NIB cases, but it is likely that the Revenue Commissioners would be keen to take prosecutions.
On Friday, the Director of Corporate Enforcement said he would liaise with the DPP to look at the possibility of criminal action against the bank.
However, he said his role was limited to enforcing company law. He said that breaches of tax and insurance law and conspiracy to defraud could be looked into.
