The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has said former Fianna Fáil TD, Beverley Flynn, should resign her Dáil seat after damning revelations in the High Court inspectors' report on the affairs of National Irish Bank.
Ms Flynn was identified by the inspectors as one of those responsible for NIB's offshore investment scheme.
The Tánaiste said she did not believe that Ms Flynn was fit to hold public office.
Ms Flynn was one of 19 former senior NIB executives singled out for blame by the inspectors.
Their report, which took more than six years to complete, found evidence of widespread tax evasion and overcharging at the bank throughout a ten-year period.
In the High Court last week, Mr Justice Smith, who ordered the publication of the report, described the findings as of the utmost gravity and ensured it was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Director of Corporate Enforcement is considering both criminal and civil charges against some of those named in the report.
The Tánaiste said that Ms Flynn and the others mentioned will have to reflect on the conclusions drawn by the High Court Inspectors.
