The Chairman of the Barr Tribunal today accused members of the gardaí of being incapable of admitting to any faults in their work.
Justice Robert Barr was commenting on the evidence of the scene commander at the Abbeylara siege when he remarked on what he said was a reluctance on the part of the gardaí to ever admit to their own flaws.
The chairman's criticisms arose during Superintendent John Shelly's testimony on the fact that gardaí lost track of John Carthy's sister, Marie, and his friend, Martin Shelly, during the siege.
The tribunal is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Mr Carthy during the siege in April 2000.
