watch listen

Residents from Kilconnell in east Galway have been staging a go-slow on the main Galway-Dublin road in protest at the building of a superdump in the village.

A convoy of more than 100 cars left the village of Aughrim at 1pm to travel the four and a half miles to Cappatagle Cross at a speed of 5mph.

The protest took place just hours before the start of the first day of Galway's annual racing festival.
