US Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has announced that Senator John Edwards will be his running mate.
Senator Edwards, who represents North Carolina, is 51.
He was formerly a rival of Senator Kerry, who represents Massachusetts, for the Democratic Party nomination.
Making the announcement in Pittsburgh this afternoon, Senator Kerry praised Senator Edwards' 'guts, determination and skill,' and said he was ready for the job.
