6.1 News: Sinéad Crowley reports on the statement of the Taoiseach following the successful Irish EU presidency
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has said 21 countries in the European Union wanted him to take the job of EU commission president.
Speaking on RTÉ radio Mr Ahern said he believed he could have very easily got support from the three remaining countries.
He said he had been tempted to take up the offer but wanted to continue his work in Ireland.
