The Tánaiste Mary Harney has told the Dáil that the Minister for Transport Séamus Brennan will bring proposals for a Metro rail system for Dublin to the Cabinet soon.

Ms Harney added that the views expressed by the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Mr Brennan were not incompatible.

Yesterday, Mr Ahern appeared to play down the chances of the project going ahead.

However, today Ms Harney told the Dáil that Mr Ahern was talking about the 'big grand plan', and that this could not happen for all sorts of logistical reasons.
