A spokeswoman for the Taoiseach has said he intends to appeal to the North's parties to use their influence to bring about a quiet summer when he meets them tomorrow in London.
Mr Ahern is due to have an hour long meeting with Tony Blair ahead of the talks at Lancaster house.
The spokeswoman said the autumn would be the crucial time in the North's political process and Mr Ahern was anxious that the talks then would not be strung out, particularly in the light of the possiblity of Westminster elections next year.
