The State's ethics watchdog has postponed an investigation into the tax affairs of Fianna Fáil TD Michael Collins until the matter has been dealt with by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Standards in Public Office Commission announced its decision today, having considered the views of the DPP and of Mr Collins.
It is understood a garda investigation is underway into the case.
The commission was asked by the Dáil's Members' Interests Committee to investigate whether Mr Collins had undeclared tax liabilities at the time he applied for a tax clearance certificate and made a statutory declaration that his tax affairs were in order.
All TDs are required to do this after their election.
Mr Collins later reached a settlement with the Revenue Commissioners in relation to a bogus non-resident account. The Limerick West TD later resigned from the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party.
