Gardaí investigating the death of a man whose body was found dumped in Co Meath say they believe he was Lithuanian and had only arrived in the country a couple of weeks ago.

The man's body was found on a country road near Dunboyne, Co Meath on Sunday evening.

Gardaí believe that they have a possible identification of the man but are trying to contact his relatives in Lithuania first to see if they have heard from him in the last couple of weeks.

A member of his family may be brought to Ireland to see if it is their relative.

Gardaí believe the man was living in West Dublin, possibly the Blanchardstown area.

They have talked to a number of other Lithuanians, but no one has been formally questioned about the matter yet.

The details of the post mortem are still not being released but gardaí say reports in the papers that the man was beaten with a blunt instrument are incorrect.
