Over 3 million cigarettes, valued at over €1m, were seized at Rosslare Europort today.
A 41-year-old man from Armagh has appeared before Judge Ó Buachalla this evening charged under Section 119 of the Finance Act 2001 and Section 10A of the Finance Act 1997.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before Enniscorthy District Court on Wednesday 23 June.
The haul of Superking, Benson & Hedges, Regal and No.1 brand cigarettes was found as a result of risk profiling by Customs officers.
The load had arrived by ferry from Cherbourg and had been concealed behind empty fish boxes in the container.
