The retrial of anti-war activist Mary Kelly ended at its outset today after her legal team asked to be discharged from the case.

Ms Kelly has pleaded not guilty to causing €1.5 million worth of damage to a US navy plane at Shannon Airport in January 2003.

Senior Counsel Brendan Nix said it was clear they no longer enjoyed the confidence or trust of their client.

The case has been adjourned until October to give Ms Kelly time to instruct a new legal team.
