US charges Guantanamo prisoner

The United States has brought charges against an Australian man being held at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

The United States has brought charges against an Australian man being held at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

The Pentagon says that 28-year-old David Hicks is accused of conspiracy to commit war crimes, attempted murder and aiding the enemy.

Mr Hicks, who was arrested in Afghanistan in 2001, will be tried by an American military commission.

He is the third Guantanamo prisoner to be charged.
