The Government has launched its final push for a Yes vote in Friday's citizenship referendum.

At a news conference in Government Buildings, the Minister for Family and Social Affairs, Mary Coughlan, said the referendum was necessary and wise.

Ms Coughlan added that if passed it would serve all the citizens of Ireland well for the future.

The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, said the Chen case showed exactly why people should vote Yes because Irish citizenship law and EU free movement rights could now be used to overcome the immigration laws of any EU country.
