Irish singer Moya Brennan, the Goodwill Ambassador for Christian Blind Mission Ireland, was among a party of five trapped in Kinshasa airport as violent anti-UN protests broke out in the Congolese capital today.

Ms Brennan and the CBM Ireland team were about to make a tour of  the charity's work in training eye specialists and restoring vision to many thousands of Congolese.

The protests apparently related to the takeover by dissident forces of the town of Bukava in the eastern region of the country.

Some time later the group left Kinshasa by plane and have arrived safely at Nairobi in Kenya.
