Dublin stabbing - Murder probe launched

Gardaí have begun a murder investigation following a fatal stabbing in Irishtown in Dublin late last night.

The victim was 34-year-old James Kavanagh from Bridge Street in the area.

Gardaí have established that he was stabbed in the neck in an attack outside the Seapoint House pub. Gardaí are satisfied the attack did not happen inside the pub.

Mr Kavanagh was driven to St Vincent's Hospital by a man who then left without leaving his name.

Staff at the hospital tried to save the victim’s life but he was pronounced dead just after midnight.

Detectives have now identified and interviewed the man who brought the victim to hospital and his car has been removed for a forensic examination.

Mr Kavanagh was a separated father of a 15-year-old daughter. He was known to gardaí as a suspected drug dealer.
