The Taoiseach, in a statement, has denied that the proposed amendment to the constitution would render some children born here stateless or would impact on their human rights.
Bertie Ahern said any child born here who was not entitled to citizenship elsewhere would automatically be entitled to Irish citizenship.
He also said that every person in Ireland was fully entitled to human rights underwritten by international law.
Urging people to support a 'Yes' vote he insisted the amendment would not affect the Good Friday Agreement.
