The Criminal Assets Bureau has secured an order enabling it to hand over more than €100,000 to the Exchequer accrued from the sale of two properties belonging to the convicted murderer Brian Meehan.

It is the first disposal order the bureau has secured in the High Court under The Proceeds of Crime Act.

A house in Fairview in Dublin and an apartment on the quays belonging to Brian Meehan were seized and sold by the bureau in 1996 .

However, under legislation, the CAB has to wait seven years before it can dispose of the assets.
