Journalists vote against supporting colleagues

Journalists at Independent Newspapers have voted against supporting industrial action by their colleagues.

Journalists at Independent Newspapers have voted against supporting industrial action by their colleagues.

Earlier, clerical and administrative staff at the company voted in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action, in a row over redundancies.

Independent Newspapers wants to cut staff numbers by 205 and has told employees to apply for a severance package by tomorrow or face compulsory redundancy. 

Management has declined to attend talks at the Labour Court to resolve the row.
