Bush appears before 9/11 inquiry

The US President George W Bush and the Vice President Dick Cheney have appeared before the commission investigating the 11 September attacks.

Mr Bush and Mr Cheney were not under oath, and no recording was made at the private meeting at the White House.

Afterwards Mr Bush told reporters he had answered all questions put before him and said the commission was interested in how to protect America in the future.

Last month, Mr Bush's former counter-terrorism chief Dick Clarke alleged that fighting al-Qaeda was not as big a priority for the Bush administration as it was for his predecessor, Bill Clinton.
