The way is clear for the redevelopment of Ballymum Shopping Centre after the withdrawal of three appeals against the proposal.

The way has been cleared for the re-development of Ballymum Shopping Centre after An Bord Pleanála announced that three appeals lodged against the proposal had been withdrawn.

The 1.7m square foot shopping centre effectively now has planning permission and can proceed.

The large mixed development, which has to take place on a phased basis because it is dependent on demolition, is due to be completed by 2009.

When finished, it will include a shopping mall, an entertainment section, such as a bowling alley and cinema, 550 apartments and an underground car park.

It is part of the Ballymun regeneration project, the largest urban renewal scheme ever undertaken in Ireland, and the largest of its kind in Europe.
