The tribunal is seeking to recover €430,000 in legal costs from Mr Lawlor.

But the High Court heard today that the inquiry is adjourning its action to allow Mr Lawlor's former solicitor, Dermot Coyne, to bring a case for unpaid legal bills of €275,000.

The tribunal's proceedings can be re-entered at any time if Mr Coyne's action is halted.
