The Minister for Health has warned that pubs could lose their licences if they fail to implement the new smoking ban, which comes into effect on Monday.

The Minister for Health, Michéal Martin, has warned that pubs could lose their licences if they fail to implement the new smoking ban, which comes into effect on Monday.

Mr Martin said the law allows for health boards to oppose the renewal of licences, where pubs openly break the law.

But the Health and Safety Authority and environmental health officers have said they are expecting the ban will be generally complied with.
