Deputy Coveney, who is running in the South euro-constituency, said the visit was an opportunity for Ireland to show some leadership, and to facilitate 'frank and blunt debate' about US foreign policy.

MEPs Proinnsias de Rossa and Patricia McKenna said earlier today there was no reason not to hold the summit in Brussels, the EU's political and administrative capital.
