Two of the trams due to be used on Dublin's new Luas system have undergone their first complete trial run on the Sandyford line.

The Minister for Transport, Séamus Brennan, was at the terminus on St Stephen's Green to greet the arrival of the trams.

The event was originally planned for last Thursday, but was postponed as a mark of respect to the people killed in Madrid.

The Sandyford to St Stephen's Green Luas line is due to open to the public at the end of June.

A group representing Harcourt Street traders staged a protest at the event, and stood on the tracks as the trains arrived at St Stephen's Green.
