The Green Party leader, Trevor Sargent, has said his party will introduce a constitutional amendment protecting the right to housing.

Speaking in Galway, he said it was necessary to put the needs of people ahead of the developers.

In the course of a wide-ranging speech at his party's Ard Fheis, he said that the Government had become a byword for arrogance, corruption and false promises.

Mr Sargent said their impoverished vision neglected the concept of community in favour of the interests of big business.
