Morris Tribunal Supt. begins evidence
Superintendent Kevin Lennon told the inquiry he was the victim of numerous allegations that were totally untrue and which had caused him to suffer gravely both professionally and personally.
He said he had a distinguished career in the Garda Síochána until he was asked to take over the McBrearty affair in 1997.
Two years later, he was directed to transfer to Milford because allegations were being made against him. Then, in May 2000, he moved to Garda HQ in Dublin before he was suspended from the force as a result of the Frank Shortt case.
Superintendent Lennon said allegations against him included claims that he was involved in planting drugs, that he took bribes and that he had bank accounts in the North.
Central to this module of the tribunal are allegations that Superintendent Lennon was involved with Detective Garda Noel McMahon and Adrienne McGlinchey in the manufacture and planting of explosives, which were subsequently found and believed to be IRA finds.
Superintendent Lennon denied being involved in the incident and said he believed the finds to be bone fide.
