Bewley's has announced it is to close its bakery at Northern Cross in Dublin later this year.

The company's management says every effort will be made to re-deploy the 44 people employed there in other outlets.

The company says a question also remains over the future of the two Bewley's flagship cafes on Grafton Street and Westmoreland Street in Dublin.

Management has blamed the disruption caused to city centre business by the Luas road works, as well as rising costs, for the situation.
