Carrickmines payout to be studied

Updated: 12:32, Wednesday, 18 February 2004

The Taoiseach has said that if the ownership of lands at Carrickmines is not proved to rest with Jackson Way, the Government will not be paying out.

The issue was raised by Labour leader Pat Rabbitte, who said evidence to the Mahon Tribunal showed that the company did not in fact own the land.

He said you would not find such a claim jump in the Yukon in the 19th Century.

Deputy Rabbitte asked what action the Government intended taking against those concerned, and whether the land in question would be seized by the State.

The Taoiseach said the Government would have to examine a court decision on the ownership of the land.

He said the Government would not pay out money lightly, and would get legal opinion on the matter.
