Maxine Carr Early release bid fails
The British Prison Service has rejected an application for early release which was made by Maxine Carr, the former girlfriend of the Soham murderer, Ian Huntley.
Carr was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for conspiring to pervert the course of justice. She had been recommended by the governor of Holloway Prison for an electronic tagging scheme.
However, the prisons' chief, Martin Narey, has used new powers to overrule that decision, saying he was concerned about her safety on release.
Huntley is serving life in prison for the murder of ten-year-old schoolgirls, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman. The two girls disappeared in their home village of Soham, Cambridgeshire, in August 2002. Their bodies were found in a ditch near Lakenheath, Suffolk, 13 days later.
