Last month Judge Patrick Moran dismissed Mr Bailey's libel claims against six of the newspapers, while he awarded damages of €8,000 to Mr Bailey against two other newspapers, The Sun and The Mirror.

At Cork Circuit Civil Court today, Judge Moran awarded three-fifths of their total costs to the six successful newspapers, while he awarded Mr Bailey half of his costs in each of his two successful actions.

The newspapers' costs are estimated at approximately €450,000, while Mr Bailey's total costs are estimated at €100,000-150,000.

On the basis of today's ruling, it is estimated that the newspapers will be entitled to claim around €200,000 from Mr Bailey and he will be entitled to claim around €14,000 from them.

The judge made an order for Bailey's legal team giving them a lien on the costs that were awarded in his favour.

Neither Ian Bailey nor his partner Jules Thomas was in court for today's hearing.
