The paramilitary Ulster Volunteer Force is reported to have 'stood down' one of its leaders in south Belfast after a spate of racial attacks in the area.

A loyalist source has said that the UVF totally condemned the attacks in which Chinese and Pakistani families were forced to leave their homes.

The source said the group had stood down its leader in the Donegall Road and Village areas.

But the UVF has not confirmed this, saying it would not discuss internal discipline.
