Poll shows Govt up 11% in ratings

A new opinion poll, to be published tomorrow, contains good news for Bertie Ahern and his Government, as their satisfaction ratings climb by 11%.

A new opinion poll, to be published tomorrow, contains good news for Bertie Ahern and his Government, as their satisfaction ratings climb by 11%.

The poll, to be published in the Irish Times, also shows a decrease in support for the main Opposition parties.

Since being returned to office in the last general election, Bertie Ahern and his Government have had to face tumbling opinion poll ratings.

But the tns/MRBI poll for the Irish Times, the first since September, appears to reverse that trend.

Satisfaction with the Government is up 11 points at 38%, and while 55% of those polled are dissatisfied with the Coalition.

Bertie Ahern's satisfaction rating is also up 11%, at 47%, while all other party leaders also enjoyed increased satisfaction ratings.

Fianna Fáil support is also up, by three points to 33%. Fine Gael is down one at 21%. Labour is down two at 17% and the PDs are also down two at 3%.

The Greens, at 5% are up one, while Sinn Féin continues its steady rise, up two at 12%.
