A 43-year-old married man from Co Tipperary appeared before New Ross District Court this morning charged with robbery and assault.
The charges arise from an incident in which a boutique owner, Diane Hamilton, was robbed and assaulted at her premises in New Ross last Wednesday.
Francis Guilfoyle, of Kennedy Park in Thurles, was arrested in Tipperary yesterday.
The solicitor for Francis Guilfoyle told the court that the accused had attempted suicide yesterday afternoon.
Judge Gerard Furlong remanded him to Cloverhill Prison to appear before New Ross District Court next Friday.
