Judgement has been reserved on a last-ditch legal attempt by conservationists to stop the demolition of archaeological remains at Carrickmines in Dublin.

Campaigners today made an application for a judicial review of the decision by Environment Minister Martin Cullen to dismantle the castle ruins. They are arguing that the minister is overstepping his powers under the National Monument Act.

A hearing on the issue was deferred last month to allow the minister and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council to prepare their case.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan said that he will give his decision in the morning.
