Almost 550 members of the public and other interested parties have forwarded their views on a new code of conduct for advertising aimed at children scheduled to be in place in time for Christmas 2004.
It was the largest ever response to a request for submissions from the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) which is drawing up a code for all radio and television broadcasters which it licenses and RTÉ.
The BCI received more than 240 submissions from children. The majority said they felt toy advertising needed to more accurately reflect the products being promoted, with many children noting that toys are not as good as made out.
